Get Involved » Adoption Policy
One of the most obvious ways to help Homeless Hounds is to adopt one of our dogs. When dogs come into our care they are, where possible, placed with a foster family. This allows us to evaluate the dogs likes and dislikes and their individual personalities.
If you are considering adopting one of our beautiful Homeless Hounds dogs, the first step is to fill in an Adoption Application. This tells us a bit about you and what you are looking for in your new family addition.
At Homeless Hounds we like to make the best match possible for both you and the dog, so please don't worry if your first application is not successful. We take extra care as we do not want dogs being returned as unsuitable as this is stressful for all concerned. At Homeless Hounds we believe that there is the right dog for everyone.
Should your application be a good match for the dog we would then arrange a 'meet and greet'. This is where you will visit the dog, probably at their foster home, and introduce yourselves to them. It is important that all members of the family who will be living with the dog and any dogs of your own attend the meet and greet. This way you will get an accurate impression of how the dog interacts with you.
After this meeting we will contact both you and the foster carer to gather feedback on how the meeting went. If you are a good match then the next step is a homecheck.
Before you are able to adopt one of our dogs you will need a homecheck. This is where somebody assigned by Homeless Hounds will arrange to visit you in your home and check that you have suitable accommodation. We believe that there is a suitable dog for everybody somewhere so we evaluate all home environments equally.
Once you have successfully completed your homecheck you will then be able to arrange to collect your new addition. We will continue to provide ongoing support to you and your new dog once you have taken them home.
You will be giving a dog a new start in life and in return they will give you love and licks.
