Rupert
Rupert is new to Homeless Hounds & under assessment. You can still apply for Rupert but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.
Rupert is a 2 year old very intelligent French Bull Dog with a big personality.
Rupert may be on the small side and look cute but he has attitude! In a recent foster home he was quick to take charge of the household and to have his own way. When he was denied what he wanted, Rupert resorted to bad behaviour in the form of barking and growling. To counteract this, Rupert is undergoing a training programme at kennels put together especially for him by a very kind trainer. It is vital that this training programme is continued in any future home and any suitable applicants will be asked to attend a training session with Rupert at kennels. Training notes and a few short videos will also be made available to help with this process. Any new owner will be asked to commit to maintaining the training.
The good news is that Rupert is responding very positively to his training and is starting to learn that it is good behaviour that will earn him rewards. He is a very clever boy and grasps what is expected of him quickly. The training is made easier by Rupert’s love of food and he is willing to do anything for a tasty treat. He is clever enough, on occasions, to anticipate what is expected of him and will sit and offer his paw in the hope of a reward! However the key to Rupert’s ultimate success long term will be the repetition of these exercises on a daily basis.
Applicants should be aware that Rupert does have some guarding issues particularly over toys and that he has nipped on one occasion when a human has got between him and his toy. He also does not like his collar area being touched and his collar being grasped. The training he is currently very successfully undergoing is helping him deal with both these issues.
As is typical of his breed Rupert can be vocal on occasions – again his training is useful in teaching him that barking will not get him what he wants.
Rupert does not appear to be reactive to other dogs but we cannot say for certainty at this early stage that Rupert is dog friendly – however the initial signs are positive.
To adopt Rupert, please complete our adoption application form. We welcome applications from across Lancashire but unfortunately we are unable to consider applications from further afield. Homeless Hounds cannot rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 5. Home check and adoption donation applies.
